This photograph shows a female gorilla firmly holding her one-week-old newborn. I captured this moment during my first encounter with mountain gorillas in Uganda. It's a moment I'll never forget, a day when I realized my greatest dream at the tender age of 22. We shared a privileged moment with this family, as gorillas are generally very protective of their newborns, their silver backs, and the mother normally stays away for a few weeks. But on this occasion, they accepted us into their family, and stayed just a few meters away from us, sharing this magnificent moment of intimacy.
