19th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Into the Woods

Lockdown measures from Covid 19 are easing up, and movement is allowed again. Tourism is starting to gain momentum, and at a local level, things are slowly starting to return to normal in many aspects of life. We prefer to stay close to home and explore the amazing nature that we can find so readily in beautiful Austria. Almost a year in isolation and confinement, our young daughter is no longer a baby. Keeping her in the house has become challenging and limited, and boring. She needs new stimuli (as we do too). We thought about how we would introduce her to the incredible forests and their stunning trails. But she was a natural! We were delighted that she enjoyed the many trails we took her on. As spring arrives, the trails opened their doors to us to explore. The more we witness normality returning, the more we realize the important role that nature plays in our well being and mental health during our walks into the woods.
