Inupiaq Drums and Dancing
This photo was taken in Barrow (Utqiaġvik), Alaska at Kivgiq, the Messenger Feast, which is held every two years (traditionally after a good whaling season). Kivgiq is named for the messengers who typically would travel from village to village inviting community members to join the feast. Pounding fabric and skin-drums and singing short songs, traditional dance groups from villages located mostly across the North Slope of Alaska participate.
