19th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Altered Images
...it is winter here.

The work I am presenting portrays the detail of a sculptural image of a Madonna supported by a slender column, the foot crushing the snake with its jaws open. It rest on a lace with multicolored fabric butterfly wings applied, on the background a glimpse of an electric wire. In a space of waiting, where time is crystallized, shadow, restlessness, drama appear. A strange stillness, however, emerges. The title of the photograph is contained in Sylvia Plath’s poem “Tulips”, in which emotional uncertainty and fear a is carried on right through to the end. Color plays an important role in this poetry adding deeply emotional feelings to the scenes. I wanted to bring to light the same emotion in the final result of the photo, manipulating and altering the image by photoshop.
