14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Jacaré

The early morning mist was almost gone. The light was an amazing mix of red and gold. The water in the Corixo Negro was very calm and we had asked our boat driver to move very slowly in order not to create waves. I spotted the eyes of a caiman sitting immobile in the water. The way he blended in with his surroundings was amazing. He was part of the landscape.
