16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Jaguar
We had been following a jaguar walking on the bank of the Cuiaba river for some time. The bank started to rise and we lost sight of him. We found him again after a few minutes. He was calmly sitting low in high grass with only the top of his head apparent.
