Bankura is a district of West Bengal in India. The western part of the district is generally barren. Though some parts are made up of forest land, on an average of 20% of forests are barren. The people living in close proximity to the forest areas are mainly the tribal. As the fertility status is also very low, they have to choose animal husbandry as their alternative livelihood. A market is held once a week in a specific place for buying and selling animals. Both the buyers and sellers come by cycles, motor bikes and matador vans from remote villages.
