Judge Verna Teller's Moccasins, Speaker Nancy Pelosi's Pumps
I took this photo while attending the invocation for the U.S. House of Representatives given by The Honorable Verna Teller, Chief Judge of Isleta Pueblo, New Mexico. It was the first such prayer given by a Native Woman, during Native American History Month, and after she had been asked by then-Representative Deb Haaland. The prayer normally would be said in Tiwa, but was instead given in English per rules for the House record.
