Juma mosque: Azerbaijan's first mosque and the second oldest mosque in the Caucasus.

Generally, Azerbaijan isn't on people's radars. However, a wealth of stunning locations can be found this country only for those who are curious enough to travel and explore its wonders.  Located in Shamakhi, Juma is Azerbaijan's first mosque. It was built back in 743 AD, which makes it the second oldest mosque in the Caucasus. The mosque has been destroyed and rebuilt several times, most notably during the devastating earthquake that reduced Shamakhi to rubble in 1859 and later by inter-ethnic clashes in 1918. Today, its historical and religious significance shines through to the world and it mesmerizes vistors with its elegance and tranquility. Magic happens in Azerbaijan, where the old meets the new and the east meets the west.
