During a trip to Detroit, we were on the highway and saw a a monstrous cloud of smoke rising to the east. We followed it to a neighborhood where two homes were on fire and parked the car. Along with the busy firefighters, a crowd of neighbors had gathered to watch the smoldering structures be reduced to ash. I asked around about what had happened, and the general consensus was that it was just, well, a regular Sunday.
