16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Juvenile Seagull

While at Shoals Marine Laboratory on Appledore Island, there were many seagulls raising their young, most of which were in the late juvenile stage. Though the parents were protective, every now and then I would be able to get close enough to a young seagull to get a great shot like this!
