17th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
Karo Boy
People, like animals, can succumb to the pressures of a globalising world. The Karo people of southwestern Ethiopia are a threatened indigenous peoples group. Their population consists of approximately 1500 individuals. They are pressured into regular society through economic exploitation and general urbanisation. I captured this picture to highlight the culture of Karo people and their village life.
