16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Kasha Katuwe
During a visit to Santa Fe, NM we drove out to Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument to see if we could catch a sunset. Upon arrival we learned that the park closes before sunset and couldn't stay. We decided to check it out for an hour anyway and made it up the trail a ways. With the formation of the clouds above the volcanic tuff ridge the journey was made special.
