Knights Wheel

This old building with its equally old iron wheel, located on Old Mammoth Rd, had intrigued me for years. Finally, after learning about flashlight lighting for night shots, we stopped to attempt to shoot the image. The main problem was that it was located next to a street lamp, making the shot very difficult. The wheel is historically very interesting. It was new technology back in the 1870's. It was a much efficient version of the water wheel. It was made to power the gold mining equipment further up the road in Mammoth Springs. Later, after the mine closed it was brought to this locations to generate electricity for a resort.
