13th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Altered Images
La Equis Monument along the El Paso and Juarez Border

This photo is showing a 197 foot monument built by Mexican sculptor Enrique Carbajal González. The monument sits along the Rio Grande at the El Paso and Juarez border. The Sculpture is an Aztec religious symbol and it represents the merging of two cultures in Mexico: the indigenous people and the Spanish.
