Lada Klochkova, the world's youngest sailor and the only child to have sailed Cape Horn and Antarctica, sits by a campfire at night in a bush in Cue, Western Australia, 2020

Russian family Klochkovs have been living on the ocean for eight years on their yacht Lady Mary. During that time the family passed all meridians, Atlantic, Indian, Pacific, Southern Oceans, five southern capes, including Cape Horn, the Strait of Magellan, Drake Passage, and twice crossed the equator, faced countless storms and tempests. They explored the least known portion of the Pacific and proved the absence of land marked on modern nautical charts. Andrey and Marina with their two daughters repeated some of the routes of the great explorers – James Cook, Fabian Bellingshausen, Adam Krusenstern. They walked the paths of Charles Darwin, Thor Heyerdahl and Jack London, and followed in the footsteps of the characters of Jules Verne’s book. There is no evidence of other such voyage with children anywhere in the world. The family has set a new world record. “We have heard about the pandemic in the Indian Ocean and were lucky to enter Western Australia one day before the borders closed - to repair the boat and stock up on our food supplies. While waiting for the borders to open, we were stuck in Australia for a year and a half. We lived a happy, full life on land, but we could not move towards our goal. Unable to continue circumnavigating the world, we travelled around parts of Australia with our friends by car and have spent nights in the Australian bush with wild dingos howling”.
