16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Last Grasp of Autumn
The wind had stripped most of the trees of their autumn colour, but this one was hanging on. It branched out over a deep abandoned quarry, and the contrast between the wet autumn leaves and the darkness of the quarry below drew me in.
