Laura Vigo at nine, 1907, after Canonica

Laura Vigo died at 9 in 1907 of typhoid in Turin, Italy. In Rome, I photographed the plaster model for the bronze that's on her Turin tomb; this is how she looked the day the photograph was made, from which Pietro Canonica made the plaster and later bronze. She was supposed to pretend to have been playing with her hoop, in her brand new dress. She was uncomfortable. For her playground I've used the cemetery in Munich.
