The Lava Fire started on 6/24/21 by lightning northeast of the city of Weed. Residents were told by the Forest Service the fire was out and left the scene. The next day, the fire had erupted and access to fight the fire proved more difficult than resources could handle. A few days later, strong winds spread the fire into the Mount Shasta Wilderness and towards the city of Mount Shasta.
