Cresting the Summit A westbound freight train crests the Canadian Rockies with a 200 car unit grain train headed to Port Rupert north of Vancouver, British Columbia on its journey by ship to China. The Canadian Pacific built this line in the late 1880’s across some of the most spectacular mountain scenery following the Native American tribes that lived in the region and their carefully forged trails through Kicking Horse Pass to cross the Rockies and access the bison hunting grounds to the eastern side of the mountains.
