Leviathan Whirlpool
The Leviathan of Parsonstown in Birr, Ireland. The Leviathan was once the largest telescope in the world and it is famous for helping towards the discovery of the spirals in galaxies. The 3rd Earl of Rosse saw the structure of what it was thought to be just nebulae, and reminded him of the little whirlpools in the river around the castle grounds. Consequently he named the now well known Whirlpool Galaxy. This picture is a tribute to his discovery, the startrails represent the legacy of the 3rd Earl of Rosse, discovering the true nature of Galaxies.
