Lewes Bonfire Parade
Lewes Bonfire is a huge annual torchlit parade which is both an act of remembrance and of resistance. Participants march in costumes recalling centuries of wars and, as these women depict, honouring the dead. Later they burn effigies of perceived villains on bonfires on surrounding hills.
