22nd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Life in a bubble
Amboli bush (Pseudophilautus amboli) froglets curling up inside their bubble eggs, probably for a couple of more nights before they are born. Very uniquely, this endemic species of frogs from the Western Ghats, India, don\'t metamorphose through their tadpole phase of life. The one in the center of the frame appears to be just a few hours away from taking its first breath on earth. So amazing is the natural world around us!
