After finishing my group tour photography session on the boat, I took a ride through Zhujiajiao Ancient Town. At first, I planned to capture the boatmen in action, but then I thought that might be too common, something everyone has already seen. So I started looking for an environmental portrait instead. That’s when I came across a docking area where some boatmen were having lunch, some were resting, and others were smoking. Watching them, I realized that their simple act of sharing a meal told a deeper story about their daily lives. And that’s how I captured this shot.
