22nd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Lightbender
Death Valley pre-sunrise is a magical world. Too dark for the eyes, relying on extreme slow exposures can give us a glimpse into the landscape before us. An hour before sunrise, the sky starts to give the faintest glimpse of light. With intentional camera movement, I was able to give that light the shape of wind as it moves throughout the dunes.
