17th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
Lincoln Memorial at night

Even though my train reached DC quite late at night, I decided to go to Lincoln Memorial. I did not regret the decision as I just loved how beautifully the place was lit up at night. The brightest light was obviously on Lincoln’s statue, but I liked the variation in light with brighter lights on some of the pillars in front, resulting in silhouettes of visitors. Also, the walls had just enough soft light falling on them that you could see the carved words and the murals on them.
