Lion Tailed Macaque, Posing

The lion tailed macaque is a small to medium sized macaque that is found only in the Western Ghats of India. Like most primates they have a complex social structure. These are arboreals primates but in some places due to habitat fragmentation and modification have now grown used to coming down. When I saw a macaque sitting on a moss covered branch I knew this was a good point of view to show this endangered and endemic animal in its rainforest habitat. Photographed at one of their few remaining strongholds - the Valparai area of Anamalai mountains in Tamil Nadu.
