It was our last evening at the Mara, and as we drove back to the camp, we chanced upon the Marsh pride lions chilling in the swamp. All of a sudden, we saw the male lion get up. We realized that a couple of buffalos had wandered close to them. The pride had spotted them and was looking for a meal. In a few moments, all chaos broke loose as the lions chased the buffaloes, and we chased them in our vehicles. The lions first separated the two buffalos and then attacked one of them. The main tactic was to get on top of the buffalo, weaken its spine and get it to the ground. Each lion taking its turn at weakening the buffalo while the others ensured that the second buffalo was separated from his friend. This was a truly amazing event to witness. We never made up our mind on whose side we were on.
