While in Portugal last September, we visited the Moorish Quarter of Lisbon, Portugal known as Almafa. One of the oldest areas of Lisbon, we took the historic No. 28 tram winding through the narrow streets to reach this colorful area dating back to the 11th century. Here we also listened and learned about Fado in a small restaurant. Fado is a music genre that can be traced to at least the 1820′s in Lisbon and is a melancholy music loosely captured in the Portuguese word “saudade” or “longing”.
