Lone Pine Memorial
The battle of lone pine in World War 1 was so named because the armies had razed the ground so they could have better sightlines, save for one pine tree. That pine tree is pictured here in this photo. I found it poetic that the tree has lasted this long, and although it is the only one left it is a strong symbol of hope and healing after loss.
