Long Tailed Weasel

A beautiful long tailed weasel sits in a narrow tree cavity, scanning around him for prey. While hiking recently, some friends and I had an unexpected encounter with this long tailed weasel. I have spent lots of time hiking in their habitat, but despite this, I have only had two sightings before this day. My last weasel sighting, which was in Yosemite, was only a glimpse with just a few photos. This sighting was much different. We got to spend over two hours with the weasel, as he jumped through the grass, climbed trees, and hunted gophers. After hunting for a while, the weasel eventually caught a gopher and disappeared into the grass. A memorable, once in a lifetime experience with this awesome animal.
