Looking in to Giglad
I saw this mask and photographed it through the window of the Eagle Spirit Gallery at Granville Island, Vancouver's Public Market. It is a Giglad carving by the Haida artist Jordan Seward. The gallery's website tells us that a giglad is a mythological character who survived being capsized into the sea. It says "In essence, Giglad is a person whose spirit is too strong to die".
