Lost Resort
Chacaltaya ski resort, once the world's highest ski destination at 17,700 feet above sea level, now stands on barren slopes as a poignant symbol of climate change. Located in the altiplano surrounding La Paz, Bolivia, the resort offered a rare Andean taste of winter sports until the 18,000-year-old glacier melted away in 2009, outpacing scientists' predictions.
