Maa Durga; The essence of Bengal

Goddess, Maa Durga is the heart and soul of West Bengal, India. During the Durga Puja, aka ‘Pujo’ the Goddess is celebrated by the whole state by setting up grand stages and bamboo tents known as ‘Pandal’ decorated with various themes, both traditional and modern. They place large statues and idols of the Goddess and worship her. People from all around India and different parts of the world visit Kolkata, West Bengal during this time to be a part of the festivities. This photograph was taken in one of the smaller Pandals which was hidden in the remote parts of the city. The idol is handcrafted by the artisans of a nearby artisanal hub and is said to hold not only their love and effort but their soul as well. The photograph is taken in a manner to direct the attention towards the eyes of the goddess while everything else holds its true chaos.
