17th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
Made At Parris Island
Senior Drill Instructor Staff Sergeant Cobb has been in the Marines for 8 years, and a Drill Instructor for the past 2. “I joined to be a part of something great, something to be proud of at the end of my life. I became a DI to leave a lasting impression,” he said. There are 600 DI’s at Parris Island, and they work nearly 100 hours a week. “It’s the most physically and emotionally draining job, very fast-paced and long hours, but there’s always a kid who leaves a lasting impression on my heart.”
