16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Altered Images
Magritte
This is a photo of my sister on the Oregon coast, with the mirror's image replaced to show her relection facing the mirror. I was inspired by the Rene Magritte painting 'Not to be Reproduced' hence the title of my photo, Magritte. I like the surrealist idea of having something not real reflected in a mirror and wanted to do it in the reverse way, of showing a face instead of not showing it. In my work I like to explore having an element of something that is out of place or unexpected, and this photo is an example of that.
