13th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Altered Images
Main room of Ellis Island
My son and I were visiting New York and several of the sites. I went upstairs in the Ellis Island main building and when I looked out I knew I needed to take the photo. This building represented a new way of life for many immigrants in the past of which some of mine even passed through here.
