The common feature of this portfolio of photographs is the ‘beauty’ to be found amongst the ‘savagery’ of lions killing and eating their prey. I was following the ‘Rongai’ pride of lions while on a trip to the Maasai Mara in October 2023. During one of their hunts, the pride split into two and separately managed to bring down two huge buffalos. As this male lion wrestled with its prospective meal, we briefly made telling eye contact. He seemed to look directly at me as if to say: “Don’t worry, there can only be one winner in this fight…”.
