21st Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Artistic
Male Red Bellied Woodpecker Composite

I shot two different poses of the same wild bird, one after the other and combined them. The pose of him with the big bite of suet was captured right before he flew away from the feeder. The other pose in reality was of him underneath the suet container but had to move him up higher and readjusted the wires in photo shop of the container accordingly to fit him in. Not a very easy art project, but was especially happy that he was showing how red his belly was for why they are called Red Bellied Woodpeckers. I shot these two pictures on a snowy overcast afternoon through the window in our backyard on 11/26/2023.
