Mama?

Not every photo has a happy background story, just like this shot of a baby giraffe I encountered during a morning game drive in the Greater Kruger area. The rangers estimated its age at about two weeks old and they were visibly nervous because they couldn't find its mother nor make out any traces of where she might've walked. This baby was hardly tall enough to reach the small tree in the picture, let alone any of the big trees in the bush to feast on them. Pretty soon we were certain something horrible had happened to its mother, which unfortunately meant that baby giraffe had limited to no chances at surviving on its own because it couldn't reach the trees and it was an easy prey to predators. We watched it for twenty minutes, it wouldn't stop looking around - looking for its mother.
