Mama Moren is a mother of nine; six boys and three girls. She is originally from Migendi in the Simbu Province. She lives in Kiam, Jiwaka Province, where her husband comes from. She claims she hasn’t been back to her home village since she was married although she misses it very much. I asked her where she was headed as I had stopped her in her tracks, to which she replied that she had a very large garden to tend, with pumpkins, tapioka etc etc. She then said with pride that she also has a very large coffee garden. Then almost immediately her tone changed as she began to describe how disheartening it is when the youths in the village steal from her coffee garden. “They steal my coffee and I often cry. The youths here are a menace, but what can I do? I just have to carry on!” I thanked her for her time and wished her all the best as she continued on her way.
