This impressive huge monumental sculpture of four giant white figures, sitting on the beach, looking out over the North Sea is located near the big seaport of Esbjerg in Denmark. Esbjerg is the biggest fishing harbor and also the main city for Denmark's oil and offshore activities. The sculptor Svend Wiig Hansen made these 9m high sitting men with white concrete and named his work of art ‘MAN MEETS THE SEA’. The monument during clear weather can be seen by the seamen from a distance of 19km. It was created in 1994 to celebrate Esbjerg’s 100 year anniversary as a municipality. In 2006 the city of Esbjerg was awarded "City of the Year" due to the work and support of young talented artists. The young artists have been given good support and the best facilities and opportunities to develop their talents even further.
