Buddhists in Ladakh carve stones with the six syllabled mantra of Avalokiteshvara. These Mani stones are left by travellers on walls where the winds carry the mantras to the gods. Driving in the Tso Kar region of Ladakh one stormy day I came across this wall near a nomadic settlement.
