Manida
This is Manida, a Karen artisan living near the Thai-Burma border in a village called Ban Mae Sa Pe. She is in her 70s and is the longest standing member of the WEAVE Fairtrade organization. She is a master of the natural dye process as well as backstrap weaving. Here you see her chopping up turmeric that she harvested from the ground, to stick in a pot and boil to make the mustard colored natural dye for their threads.
