13th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Mapped my country to depict the miracles of nature, people and their lives

People of Buxa live a tough life, most of them turn into poachers and wood smugglers. My mission to Buxa was to rehabilitate poachers by educating them about wildlife conservation and saving endangered species of the forest. One of the villagers had given up hunting and he was very interested in taking me around the forest in search of birds and wild animals. While we were returning after a long ride from the forest limits I witnessed this miraculous moment. I waited for a few minutes until the sun turned fully orange and people cross the road, then took a few shots to make this image.
