13th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Marble Chasm
A group of us went on a hike and caving expedition in Souther Vermont, along the Rout 7 corridor, which is a marble and quartz contact zone. There is a natural bridge created by water carving out the marble for millions of years. The area holds a diverse variety of northeastern wildflowers, moss, lichen and fungi. We took lunch by this spectacular waterfall.
