Local resident Veniamin stands at the window in his ruined apartment in Mariupol. Mariupol is an important industrial center of the Donetsk region, which until May 2022 had been under the control of Ukraine. After heavy fighting and huge civilian casualties, Mariupol was taken by Russian troops.
