Memorial to Queen the Coon Dog
Queen is one of dozens of certified Coon Dogs interred in the world's only Coon Dog Cemetery near Cherokee, Alabama. Founded in 1937, the cemetery is reserved exclusively for Coon Dogs, American scenthounds specifically bred to hunt raccoons. The breed dates back to colonial times and several varieties are recognized by both the AKC and UKC. Burial in the cemetery requires proof of breed. Earlier graves in the cemetery are mostly local dogs, but there are more recent burials from across North America; often the dogs have illustrious records of championships. The cemetery stands and testament to the enduring companionship between people and their dogs.
