14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Mid-morning in the Mojave Desert.
The drive from California to Arkansas is tedious at best. But in that monotony of driving came an ever changing landscape that seemed endless. When I looked to either side of our car, all I saw was horizon. Coming from a tightly packed city, it was the first time I felt so isolated and exposed.
