16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
Mississippi River at Jacobson, Minnesota
Having been born in the Mississippi flood plain in Madison County, Illinois and having crossed the Father of Waters recently at Baton Rouge, I think of the river as a great commercial waterway. At Jacobson, a canoe would have a hard time navigating the river. I thought it was a nice contrast to my long held conceptions.
